Tunespan is SLOW

John Richey shared this problem 11 years ago
Not a Problem

Tunespan performance has dramatically changed. The performance today in spanning a file between my internal Macbook Air HD and my external drive is 50X worse than yesterday. To span a 2GB file between the 2 takes close to 1 hour. What could be causing this.

This problem has been resolved. A file was hung on my system which wasa slowing down Tunespan.

Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, but thank you for following up about it being resolved.

That makes sense, a hang on any drive can basically lock up the system.

Whenever things get truly slow on my Mac, I generally look at the file system first. Usually, it's that the internal drive is getting full or there's some hang on an external drive that's locking everything up.

Gotta remember, when it comes down to it, computers can't really do everything at once, and in parallel, if one this gets hung up, the whole system can freeze until that one thing is finished or aborted. This is especially true when dealing with the file system.

Anyway, glad it was basically a fluke and nothing major. It could be good to give your computer a restart and start "fresh" if you haven't done that in a while.

If you happen to run into anything else, I'll be here :-)
