Restore files without copying files

I have a problem:

My Itunes Media Folder sits on an external harddrive, and I use tunespan to span the tracks to the internal drive for on the go usage. As the external drive is my primary media location I like to leave the tracks on there as well (to be able to have the whole media on one location)

Spanning works fine (the cleanup option is disabled for spanning).

However when I restore a file (cleanup option enabled), instead of just updating the location back to the original file and deleting the spanned file, tunespan copies the file.

After the process I have two files (eg. original.mov and original 1.mov) in the itunes media folder.

Thanks for getting in touch. I'm very sorry for my late reply.

TuneSpan should only do something like this without prompting about a duplicate file at the span or restore location when it has detected that the existing file is referenced in the iTunes Library.

My first though is that this may have to do with SD and HD versions of a movie? Could that be the case? If you check the file size on both movies are they identical? If you search for the movie in iTunes, are there multiple copies of it?

No they are not, they are identical files. Also, TuneSpan didn't use to do that, normally it would ask, so i'd just tell it to use the original file (on the external drive). Seems to be a bug...

It does indeed seem to be a bug. Would you mind emailing me your "iTunes Library.xml" file so I can do some investigating with it?

Also, please let me know the actually filenames that this happened for.

it happens to all the files i restored, however I fixed them manually (which is a pain in the ass, luckily i only use tunespan for movies/tv-serien). To give you something to work on spanned some episodes and restored them, (getting copied)

sent you a PM
