Moving USB Drive To Router
Answered
I have used TuneSpan to move my movies from my Mac to an attached USB drive. Now, I would like to move this USB drive to my Airport Extreme router.
Can I update TuneSpan and iTunes without copying the movies again? Or do I have to span the movies back to my Mac. Move my USB drive to the Airport and then span my movies from the Mac to USB drive?
Thanks, Michael
You should be able to plug this drive into your Airport Extreme router and mount it on your computer with no issue.
As long as the mount path (the name of the drive) is the same, TuneSpan and iTunes shouldn't care how the drive is connected.
Imagine if you spanned over USB and then later connected the drive over FireWire or something, it shouldn't make a difference, the drive is the same and the name of the drive is the same so iTunes and TuneSpan can find the files at the same path as before.
So, try just plugging the USB drive into your router and mounting it on your Mac, everything should work just fine, as it did before.
But, if you happen to run into any issues, or have any questions, I'll be here to help.
Thanks so much for getting in touch, and for using TuneSpan!

Thank for the reply!
Yes, this does indeed work as you say. I should have just gave it a try:)
Now, I can span everything at full USB 3.0 speed when my drive is attached directly to my MacBook. Then move it to my Airport Extreme router, so that my iTunes content can be conveniently referenced as needed.
TuneSpan is a really nice piece of work!

Awesome!
Glad to hear it all worked for you, thanks for getting back to me.
That definitely sounds convenient to be able to span quickly over fast USB 3, but then have the option to plug it into your router for all the wireless convenience.
Kinda makes me want to get an Airport Extreme :-)
