Moved spanned media directory to a new drive

Hello,

My "Spanned Media" drive is dead. I successfully recovered the spanned media directory (900 Mb) and I've moved it in another drive. This is the exact copy, I had no problem doing that.

How can I update iTunes/tunespan in order to use this new drive and forget the old one ?

Best regards

Thanks for getting in touch.

Sorry to hear you lost your drive, but glad to hear your files are safe :-)

To get TuneSpan and iTunes to know the new locations of the files, you simply need to reselect all of the tracks that are on the dead external to span just like you did the first time. Most easily, you can go to the All media type and drag the old drive from the Media Locations list into the Spanlist.

Then, set your Span Location to the new correct span location folder on the new drive.

Then, just click Span and TuneSpan should find all the files in the new location and just quickly update the locations in iTunes.

Please let me know how that goes. If you run into any errors in the Span Results, be sure to grab a screenshot so that I can see the failure reason to help you further.

You don't need to have access to the old drive. But, you should still see it listed (with a question mark as the icon) in the TuneSpan Media Location list on the right side of the window.

I have the same situation - moving from USB_Drive (which failed) to the new R_Drive. (see attached screen shot).

I chose the "Music" subfolder on the R_Drive as my span location. That's where I put the media from my recovered drive.

I have followed your instructions as best I understand them and a pop up box comes up (see 1st screen shot). I tried "Attempt to Locate Files" and it failed because they weren't found.

I tried again and chose "Span Anyway" and all were skipped (see second screen shot).

What am I doing wrong?

So sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. From these screenshots, it looks like you need to set the Span Location to "R_Drive" itself instead of the "Music" subfolder. This is because TuneSpan creates the "Music" subfolder when it spans so when you set the Span Location to the "Music" subfolder, its looking for another "Music" folder within that.
