Sadly, this is not that simple. I go over it a bit in the Help info, but editing the XML file does nothing, iTunes does not read it to actually update it's real database. The actual iTunes database cannot be read or written to, it is encrypted. TuneSpan does not actually ever manipulate the iTunes database. Again, this is covered in detail in the Help.
But, you should be able to do what you want manually quite simply, but you do need to play with the iTunes preferences. If you go to the Advanced section of the iTunes preferences and uncheck "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" you should be able to just drag in the movies you want in your iTunes library while keeping them in their current location. Make sure to recheck the preference when you are done adding the desired files.
TuneSpan is a tool to move around the music you have in iTunes... to keep myself sane, I am trying to keep the scope narrow and keep it doing its job well, rather than doing to much not well enough.
So, I hope that helps you. Thank you so much for getting in touch and using TuneSpan!
