Thanks so much for getting in touch, I'm sorry for this trouble.

Syncing movies to your iPad shouldn't be an issue after spanning them, but iTunes may want to resync them.

Did iTunes remove them from your iPad, or did it not add new movies?

Are you syncing while the external drive with your spanned media on it is plugged in?

I have so many movies that I'm constantly arranging and re-arranging what I sync and what I don't. I purchased this program so that I could save the space on my macbook pro. Now that I've spanned the movies to an external hard drive, there are a bunch of movies that simply wont sync. They show up in my itunes and I can watch them in my itunes on my computer but they arent recognized when I go to sync them with the ipad. I've also tried to sync them with my iphone just to make sure that it wasn't an issue with the ipad but they didnt work there, either. For some reason, they just aren't recognized when I try to sync. Furthermore, now that I've spanned them, when i tried to restore them to their original space, they STILL WONT SYNC!!! this was NEVER an issue when they were on the macbook hard drive. This has ONLY happened since I used this program to span the media to the external hard drive. Which may mean that these files have been rendered somewhat useless!!! =( I could understand if it was all files, or no files, but its only a select few random files!!

I hear you, that must be very frustrating.

I haven't heard of an issue like this before, and there is no technical reason that using TuneSpan should render a file "unsync-able".

TuneSpan simply copies files and then uses the standard iTunes AppleScript "set location" command to tell iTunes where the file is. Any side affects of doing that must be within iTunes, but it doesn't make much sense to me why these files would not sync after spanning them,

Do you get some kind of error when trying to sync them through iTunes? Or you are saying they just don't show up in a list of stuff to sync?

Would it be possible for you to send me some screenshots of what you are seeing in iTunes? If you're not comfortable posting screenshots on this site, you can email them to me directly at "pico {at} randomapplications.com"

I want to help the best I can, but it's hard to know exactly what is going on when I can't see what you're seeing, and this is a new issue to me.

Again, I'm sorry, I appreciate you getting in touch about the issue. I'll do all that I can, but I'll need you to work with me on it.

The movies show up in my itunes with no issue. They even show up in the screen where you can select what files to sync to your device. But when you select them, the status bar (the one at the bottom that shows how full the ipad memory is with the various types of files) doesnt change (it should go up for every file selected) and they just wont sync. As I said before, they play just fine in itunes and even show up in the media sharing on my wifi. They just wont sync! There is no error message, warning, freezing, etc. These files synced with no issue what-so-ever prior to spanning them to the external drive and now they just dont. I have tried everything. Ive called apple and they have no explanation for it at all other than the moving of the files to a new location. I wish that I had never done this because now I have roughly 15 movies that I cant sync. The ONLY thing that I've done differently is to use tunespan to move these files to the external hard drive.

I understand.

I know it may not sound like it will make a difference, and it may actually not make a difference... but I think it's worth restarting your computer, restarting your iPad etc, just to see if that has any effect.

The last ditch effort that I can think of is to remove the non-syncing movies from iTunes, but making sure to keep the files, and then re-adding them to iTunes manually. Doing so may "reset" them and allow them to once again be synced.

If you remove and re-add stuff from the external drive, you should be sure to hold the Option key while dragging them into iTunes which will have them NOT be copied back into the default iTunes Media folder if you have that setting on the in the Advanced iTunes Preferences.

Thanks for getting in touch again. I'm sorry you've run into this issue. Did you read through this thread and try all the suggestions?

At this point, I'm not sure what else I can suggest over what I've already written in here. I still haven't run into this issue myself, so it's hard to know what the cause is.

It may be helpful to make sure you're running the latest version of iTunes and all that.

Hi Pico-I guess I am wrong.... I know that before when I tried I got some kind of error message (I can't remember exactly what it said but I think it said it couldn't find them). But just checked again on my iPhone and all the movies are there but they all have the 'cloud' icon.... I only have 2 checked so I thought only those 2 would sync. Here at my house, if I click on the 'cloud' icon, the movie plays-will it play if I am on the road and not connected to wi-fi? And why didn't just the 2 checked movies sync I wonder. That is a question for Apple though.... Just thinking out loud. Thanks for getting back to me though. Maybe you can answer the question about the 'cloud' icon next to the movies on my iPhone.... The "Cloud" icons mean that the files are not actually on your device, but that you can stream or download them via "iTunes in the Cloud" which works for past iTunes purchases, but not for any and all videos (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/i...).

If you want to be able to stream your Music on your mobile devices or other computers in the same way, that would require Apple's paid service: iTunes Match.

There are settings where you can set whether you want media to stream over cellular or only stream over Wi-Fi in the Settings app. But, I wouldn't suggest streaming or downloading videos over cellular data unless you have some huge data plan.
