Changing restore location

I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Mac OS 10.9. I then restored my old iTunes folder from a backup. No problems with that.

Now if I run Tunespan, those files that were spanned before the OS reinstallation have their original file location set to the external disk (my spanned media folder). That means I cannot move those spanned files to my internal disk (default iTunes Media folder) via the "Restore" feature.

Essentially, I want Tunespan to recognise the default iTunes Media folder as the original location for all files.

Can I fix this by simply using the 'consolidate library' feature in iTunes to get a fresh start or will this cause any trouble?

Thanks! T

Thanks for getting in touch.

Firstly, you DO NOT need to use any consolidate library features or do any file copying to solve this problem.

Here's what you need to do:

First off, open up TuneSpan and go to the All media type to make sure we catch all of your spanned media. Then, select your external drive in the Locations list on the right of TuneSpan where all your spanned media is.

In the All media type with your external drive selected, go to the track list and select all the tracks.

After you've selected all the tracks on your external drive, right-click the track list and you'll see a "Force Span / Restore" sub-menu. In this sub-menu, select "Force Span".

This "Force Span" feature will not move any files or anything, it will just mark the tracks as spanned within TuneSpan, and set the original location to the default iTunes Media folder so that you can restore them as you normally would.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
