I have only downloaded one album to a 2TB external drive and I keep getting the message 'Selected Span Location Cannot Be Found' yet the drive that I use is listed in the media locations.

Help needed!

Thanks for getting in touch.

Can you send over a screenshot of your TuneSpan window so I can see what you're seeing?

Hi Pico,

Here's the screenshot.

Many thanks,

Looks like your "MG iMac Nevin" drive isn't mounted.

Is this drive not plugged in? Is it a network drive that you need to connect to? TuneSpan will not try to auto mount any network drives.

Or, did you rename it? But, if you had renamed it, TuneSpan should have prompted you about the change and updated the locations.

Actually, a little background from you might help.

It looks like all your music is already on "MG iMac Nevin", but you didn't move it there with TuneSpan. Where are you trying to move the music to with TuneSpan?

Is this a library you migrated from another computer or something? Is all of your stuff playable in iTunes?

Hi Pico,

I've just checked and the drive is mounted.

I've just tried to span another CD and here's the screenshot.

In the first screenshot, you can see that TuneSpan couldn't find the drive by the "?" in the Locations browser. In the second screenshot, it has the USB drive icon, rather than the "?" so now it is mounted. Not sure why it would have had the "?" before if you say it was connected the whole time.

But anyway, the Span Location still has a "?". This means that TuneSpan can't find the "Spanned Media" folder on the "MG iMac Nevin" drive. Does that folder still exist on the USB drive when you look at it in the Finder? Have you spanned to that folder before?

It looks as though TuneSpan is not finding any of your music files anyway. You can see by all the circled question marks in the track list.

Since the "MG iMac Nevin" drive is the only drive listed in the Media Location browser, that would mean that iTunes (and TuneSpan) think that all of you music is already supposed to be on there, but cannot be found.

What folders are listed if you expand the "MG iMac Nevin" drive in the TuneSpan Location browser?

At this point, even if the "Spanned Media" folder existed on the "MG iMac Nevin" drive, using TuneSpan would do nothing if the original files can't be found.

So, what's the history with these music files? Did you migrate them from another computer or an old OS X install? Can you play them in iTunes?

Thanks for the reply...yes I have spanned to that folder before but will try remounting the drive later after work.

Cheers

Alright, and please let me know about the other questions as well.

It looks like something is going on and that TuneSpan can't find your files. I'm curious to see what is going on and where your files are.

I had something similar happen. My external drive was mounted, but TuneSpan reported not being able to find it. I went into the external drive in my finder, and clicked on the folder that I had designated as my Span Location. After that Tune Span updated my media files with the correct span locations.

What kind of Span Location are you working with? Is it a network drive? It may be that it needed to be mounted in the Finder before TuneSpan could see it. TuneSpan will no auto-mount network locations.
