TuneSpan not seeing new content added to iTunes

Need Answer

Since upgrading to the latest iTunes version (12.2.0.145), TuneSpan no longer sees any new content that I add. Is this an iTunes bug with the library data file or is there a newer version of TuneSpan that's needed to deal with the newer iTunes version?https://getsatisfaction.com/randomapp...#

I'm finding there are change in iTunes 12.2 that I'll need to deal with in an update, but I'm not seeing issues with the XML being updated for changes. That's still working for me.

There's a new option in the iTunes Advanced Preferences that may be causing an issue... A new "Share iTunes Library XML with other applications" option.

Make sure this option is checked for you, I'm not sure if there's a situation where it would be off by default.

If it is checked, try unchecking it, then clicking OK in the iTunes Prefs to save them, and then going back in and re-checking it and clicking OK again.

This will delete the XML file, and recreate a fresh copy that should hopefully be up-to-date and stay up-to-date for TuneSpan.

Then, of course, relaunch or reload TuneSpan to see any potential changes.

Please let me know how that goes for you.

Hi Pico,

I tried un-checking and the re-checking the XML sharing option (noticed the time stamp changed on the iTunes Music Library.xml file), reloaded TuneSpan and it's still not seeing the new content :(

Hmmm... what is the new content?

Would you minds sending comparative screenshots for TuneSpan and iTunes?

The content is video (TV Show), .m4v files.

The first screen shot is taken from iTunes, the second from TuneSpan.

Also, it's not only this one file, others too are not showing up in the span list.

Unsure if these threads I found are related or not...

I'm really not sure at this point. The XML iTunes Library file is totally managed by iTunes and is out of TuneSpans control. This is basically an iTunes issue, but I understand that it greatly affects TuneSpan.

I would try another way to make sure you're getting a fresh XML file. Trash the XML file manually (make sure to only touch the XML and nothing else in the iTunes folder) and then go into iTunes and play a song to increase a play count. Maybe playing one of those tracks that hasn't been showing up would be a good thing to try. To increase the play count in iTunes, you don't need to play the whole thing, just jump towards the end and let iTunes finish playing it.

Then, quit iTunes to get it to save the new XML file. Since the play count increase should be changes in the XML you should get a fresh XML file with up-to-date information.

If that doesn't work. We'll have to dig deeper. Maybe send me your XML file so I can see if something weird is going on in there?

Also, I don't think those links about issues with Apple Music and iCloud Music Library are related to this.

Ah, this is a different issue.

See the info in this thread: =15868802#reply_15868802]https://c.getsatisfaction.com/randoma...

I'll have this issue fixed in an upcoming update. So sorry for the current inconvenience.

I tried rebuilding the iTunes Music Library.xml file as suggested by trashing it and opening a file which was successful but it made no difference to TuneSpan. I did a search in TuneSpan and the missing content was located, but TuneSpan is seeing as being in the Movies Folder instead... this screenshot shows the file in Finder and how TuneSpan is interpreting the location...

This screenshot shows the file path in the the iTunes info window-

I followed the link you provided and I see you're aware of the issue. What would happen if I did a search for those "missing" files and spanned them? Would they end up on the target drive properly or should I wait for the update to TuneSpan?

You can still span the files normally.

TuneSpan will mis-organize them as Movies in the folder structure, but that's not a serious issue.

When the update comes out, you can re-span them to the same span location and TuneSpan will quickly move the files to reorganize them properly.

TuneSpan 1.3 is now available on the Mac App Store http://mas.tunespan.com

All your media will now be organized into the correct media types in the TuneSpan UI as well as the spanned media folder organization.

I even took it a step further so that TuneSpan will offer to reorganize any previously spanned media that got put into the wrong media types folders from using the previous version of TuneSpan with iTunes 12.2 :-) All you gotta do is launch TuneSpan 1.3 and it should offer to reorganize your files automatically.
