I have 3 movies that won't span and give me this 512 Error code. All of these are iTunes purchases. Pacific Rim, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Winter Soldier. Not sure what's going on.

The most likely cause of getting a 512 copy error is that your drive is formatted as FAT32, which has a singe file size limit of 4GB. If these video files are larger than 4GB, they cannot be copied to the drive, even through the Finder or anything.

Reformatting your drive is possible, but would require completely erasing it and then restoring the data, so you would need to have the space available somewhere else to back everything up.

You can check the drives format in the Disk Utility app by selecting the drive on the left source list and looking at the bottom summary, you should see a Format listing. But, be sure not to mess with anything else in Disk Utility if you're not sure what you're doing.

It is FAT 32. What format should it be? Also how do I go about moving everything on there that has already been spanned to another drive and back again?

The native Mac file format for drives is "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" which you can choose from the drop down menu when you are ready to erase the drive.

To move back all your media files that you've spanned to their original locations, you can use Restore Mode in TuneSpan, you'll see a toggle on the bottom left to switch between Span Mode and Restore Mode. Then you can select you spanned tracks to restore, just as you selected them to span. There also a quick access menu item if you right-click the Spanlist area to "Select All Spanned Tracks to Restore..."

But, if you want to move them to another drive, just pick a new Span Locations and span them to the new drive just the same way you spanned them originally.

Then, you'll want to double check that there are no files or folders left if your Span Location on the external drive, as well as manually backup anything that you may have put on the drive yourself.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll try it out tomorrow.

Alright, be very careful and mindful. If you don't have everything backed up properly, you won't be able to recover anything after you reformat the drive.
