I keep getting a popup saying that restoring NoteAway from a backup file is not allowed and to contact the Developer. How can I restore my accidentally deleted notes back to NoteAway?

Thanks for getting in touch.

Retrieving your notes from the backups is not hard, but I have not yet written an interface into NoteAway to make it super simple.

Firstly, you need to go into the NoteAway Library Preferences and click the Show Backups button in the bottom right. That will open the folder of all the library backups in Finder. Make sure your viewing the folder in List view and sort by Name descending and your latest backup should be at the top of the list.

Now, right-click the backup file and choose “Show Package Contents” from the contextual menu.

You’ll see the file is actually just a folder of your notes. To restore them, you don’t need to move those note files out of the backup or anything, it’s best to leave them in place. Simply select the notes you want to restore and double-click to open them and they will be imported into your live NoteAway Library, leaving the backup copy in place.

You should be able to see the title preview of your note by expanding the name column to be wide, or you can even Quick Look the note files before reimporting them as you would any other text file.

Once you see your notes in NoteAway, you can close the backups in Finder and use NoteAway normally :-)

I have a new computer and backups of the old computer but not the old computer itself.

Where can I find the Noteway files in my backup?

I would like to restore its contents or at least selectively copy some from it.

I looked in user/Library/ApplicationSupport and user/Library/Preferences and can't find Noteaway

UPDATE: Found it using Find. Duh.

They are in Library/Containers.

Then I followed the instructions above.
