Change default shortcuts for operations

Would be nice, to have a setting for changing the default keys e.g. ctrl+shift+1, ctrl+shift+2, to define individual easier to snap shortcuts for often used operations.

Thanks for that great application!

Sorry it took me a while to commented on this idea. I definitely want to have all shortcuts be user editable and have the ability to set shortcuts for every and all action in the zoom menu.

It will come, but at the moment I am busy with a big TuneSpan update, I have a minor SizeWell update coming soon, but this addition will be added in a later more major upgrade.

Thanks!

I would like this as well. I currently can't use SizeWell, since the built-in key combos conflict with other apps I use.

Thanks.

+1 for this.

Myself, I just wish the positioning commands in the Window > Zoom menu had keyboard shortcuts, no matter how complicated they were. Support for configuring them is secondary: I can always use a utility like Spark to create shortcuts for the shortcuts.

What I can't do, apparently, is to use the Keyboard prefpane or Spark to assign shortcuts to those SizeWell menu items that don't have any. (I've tried many times.)

You posted this just in time. I am hoping to get a small update out tomorrow. But, before I go ahead with that, I will look into finding some shortcuts for the positions.

Chances are they will need to be pretty complex since they can't conflict with any other shortcut in any other app. But, any shortcut is better than none.

Myself, I just use BetterTouchTool to configure trackpad gestures to the SizeWell shortcuts I use the most. So, I agree, in that kind of situation it really doesn't matter how complex the shortcut is, just as long as there is one.

Yes, exactly.

Alright, I am playing with some positioning shortcuts like ("shift + option + command + [" and "shift + option + command + ;" etc.) all using the character keys on the right side of the keyboard.

I am wondering if you think I should change the centering shortcut to be "shift + option + command + `" to match the rest of the positioning shortcuts or leave is as it currently is which is "shift + control + `"

these shortcuts are complex and kinda weird, but as we know, it is what they need to be to not conflict with other stuff. But, I have still not fully tested them in a lot of apps to make sure they don't conflict with anything. If you are interested in helping me testing this stuff, I would greatly appreciate it, email me at pico (at) randomapplication.com

Alright, so I am gonna go ahead with these crazy new shortcuts and leave the current centering shortcut as it is.

Unless anything else comes up, this update should be released tomorrow.

Hi,

I'm sorry I missed your earlier comment—the system neglected to notify me of it. I think leaving the centering shortcut as it was is fine. And I'll be glad to help rest for conflicts on the new shortcuts.

SizeWell 0.8.2 beta was released earlier today. You can get it through auto-updating in the SizeWell System Preferences Pane or at http://sizewellplugin.com

If you find any conflicts with the new shortcut, please let me know and I will try some different shortcuts and release another update. So far, I have not found any conflicts with the apps I use regularly.

Thanks so much for suggesting these shortcuts get added!

Au contraire...thank you! Very much indeed.

I would like to point out that SizeWell's menu shortcuts can't be changed from the Keyboard preference pane. Please make the shortcuts editable!

Thanks for a great plugin!

Making all of the shortcuts customizable as well as making the whole zoom options menu customizable is definitely on my list of things to do. But as of now, it is still a while off. SizeWell has expanded a lot, and I feel I need to do some rewriting to allow for this kind of customization, it's not something that I just want to tack into the code, making it more and more clunky. There will also be some interface changes that I will have to spend some time thinking about.

Personally, I use BetterTouchTool to configure the SizeWell shortcuts to trackpad gestures. I don't do it personally, but I believe BTT may be able to remap shortcuts to other shortcuts of your choosing. I am pretty sure there are other apps out there as well that let you remap shortcuts, so that you can manually setup SizeWell how you would like.

Sorry I can't offer more directly in SizeWell at this moment.

Take your time!

I use a trio of shortcut managers, actually — not only Spark. I'm using these to attempt to change SizeWell's keyboard shortcuts as best as I can, but there are still a couple of caveats:

Simulated keystrokes don't have the reliability of real keystrokes. Every once in a while, either the intended keystroke doesn't fire or something else happens because I happen to be pressing other keys or clicking the mouse at the same time.

SizeWell's keyboard shortcuts are fairly obscure, but they still conflict with some equally-obscure shortcuts I set myself. Also, I'd like to turn some key combos off that I don't use and assign more memorable shortcuts to ones I do use.

I can't seem to set both Zoom (non-SizeWell-enabled apps) and Standard Zoom (SizeWell-enabled apps) to the same key combo (i.e., ⌃⌘Z). I've tried.

If you could even allow keyboard shortcut customization by editing SizeWell's preferences property list (like how one changes Isolator's preferences key combo), that would be very very useful.

But again, take your time, and thanks for this great tool!
