I just downloaded version 9.2.2 of this software and am completely unable to use it at all. The app crashes shortly after launch. Any help?

What version of Mac OS X are you running?

TuneSpan 0.9.2.2 only supports 10.5+

If you are running 10.5 or 10.6, it would be great to get the crash log which you can get from the prompt which Mac OS will bring up after the crash.

Hope we can work this out quickly. Let me know.

After talking with diamondboxx over email, we have tracked down the issue.

The reason TuneSpan was crashing on launch was because of the use of the "@" character in the Genre field of a single track. Specifically this is only an issue when the "@" character is the first character of a Genre. This issue does not affect any other fields such as Artist or Album. The issue will be address and corrected in a future update, but in the mean time, simply removing the "@" character from the Genre, or adding a space (or any other character) before it so that the "@" is not the first character allows TuneSpan to load properly.

If this become a widespread issue a minor update could be published to address it before the bigger 0.9.3 update gets released, but as of right now, an incremental update for just this fix will not be published. If any other users run into this issue, please contact me directly at pico [at] randomapplications.com or post in this thread.

Thank you.

Hey, it's crashing on launch for me too.

Tried using my regular library and also created a new empty library. Both crash on launch.

Thanks for posting on here about the issue, also, thanks for trying to launch it with a fresh library.

Odd that it is just crashing outright, there should be a clue in the automatically generated Crash Report or in Console.app at the time of the crash. The issue could also be narrowed down by attempting to launch TuneSpan with no "iTunes Music Library.xml" file in its default location to see if TuneSpan can even get far enough to successfully tell you that the file is not found.

Also, I know you are running OS X on a non-Mac X86 system, this may be part of the problem, but there is no telling until we get a look at why TuneSpan reports that it crashed.

Here's the output from the Console

Thanks for posting this.

It looks like this may not technically a "crash" because TuneSpan is quitting on its own.

Signified by the "QUITTING WITHOUT SAVING" message, which only happens when there are multiple instances of TuneSpan running, or TuneSpan's Application Support folder was not created properly. But since that message is posted it means TuneSpan did actually quit on its own rather than crashing.

All those malloc warnings are because 10.5 is not as good as garbage collection as 10.6, nothing to worry about there.

The key messages here are the "reading from ... Is a directory" this signifies an issue with copying TuneSpan Helper to the application support folder. There was an issue with the application support folder not being created in the initial 0.9.3 release, but was addressed quietly with a 0.9.3.0.1 update. But this does not look like the exact issue. Are you not getting any alert message telling you TuneSpan Helper could not be installed?

There is a chance you did not get the 0.9.3.0.1 update, I would recommend redownloading TuneSpan to be sure and see if that solves it. If not there is some other issue when TuneSpan is trying to copy TuneSpan Helper. Something that may be easier to look into if I can get on your computer for a moment... good thing I know where you live :)

Just released TuneSpan 0.9.3.1 update, curious to see if the problem happens again when the new version of TuneSpan tries to replace TuneSpan Helper with its updated version automatically... since we were only able to get it to work when manually copying TuneSpan Helper to the application support location.

Just released TuneSpan 0.9.4 beta which can install TuneSpan Helper with administrator privileges (among other nice new things). I was able to install TuneSpan Helper like this on a computer with a similar issue to what you are experiencing, so I am hoping this should solve the issue for you.
