Solved

Tried to install TuneSpan on OS X 10.6.4, bombed out saying TuneSpanHelp couldn't be installed (no reason given) and asking me to report a bug in this forum.

This was a mistake on my part, I caught the issue quickly after I released 0.9.3 and updated it quietly.

When did you download TuneSpan? If you redownload it now, you should get the latest version (0.9.3.0.1) that fixes the issue.

Thanks, Pico - I downloaded it yesterday (Thursday) but will download the newer version tonight after work or tomorrow and wll let you know.

Thanks for your quick response, by the way!

Hmm, then your download should have installed without issue, please let me know the outcome. I am readying another updating and would want to work in any necessary fixes for your issue.

That's the thing - I downloaded the program last night (I'm in Germany) and tried to install it. When I couldn't, I sent the post - so whatever version of the program was downloadable at around 21:00 my time / 15:00 EST yesterday had the problem. Has the version now available for download changed since? Note: I'm at work now, thus have no access to my home computer, which has the download (and the problem.).

Yea, the version has not changed in that timeframe. If you still want to try a redownload, this link should guarantee you are getting the latest released version (http://www.tunespan.com/downloads/Tun...)

The issue you are running into is that TuneSpan is not able to copy TuneSpan Helper to your Application Support folder (for whatever reason... disk space, permissions, etc). A fix may be to run the Repair Permissions from Disk Utility. To see the issue first hand, you can go to ~[you home folder]/Library/Application Support and look for a folder called TuneSpan, most likely it does not exist yet (because we are having this issue). You can try creating it, if you can create it without any problems, try relaunching TuneSpan to see if it can now copy TuneSpan Helper properly.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Pico, the hard drive on my primary computer crashed a couple days ago, so I'm immersed in dealing with that - will try this procedure when I reemerge from dealing with this other problem and will let you know what happens.

Have had a chance to try TuneSpan again? Is this still an issue?

If it has been, TuneSpan 0.9.4 (just released) can install TuneSpan Helper with administrator privileges, which seems to solve most installation issues that may come up.

Hi, I just got my replacement hard drive and a friend is installing it Friday, so I hope to be able to give you a good reply this weekend. Thanks for following up on this.

As of TuneSpan 0.9.6 beta, TuneSpan Helper has been completely removed and will be uninstalled from anyone system that already has it.

So, this is no longer an issue at all.
