How does tunespan affect the id3 track info. i.e. Artist Name, Album name etc. If i change it in iTunes will the original spanned file get updated?

Good question, thanks! This comes down to the behavior of iTunes. From what I have seen, iTunes folder organization code does not modify file names that are not in the default iTunes Media location.

So, when id3 tags are changed in iTunes for any track whose file is not in the default iTunes Media location the file name nor folders above it are modified.

I would assume iTunes is written this way because any files not in the default location cannot be guaranteed to be in the same folder structure organized the way iTunes would. Files spanned by TuneSpan happen to follow the same structure, but iTunes isn't aware of that. Any code to update the folders and files as id3 tags change would need to live within TuneSpan or TuneSpan Helper.

I will think more about the issue, but I cannot say when or if any change would happen. There is a lot to think about with TuneSpan right now, there are changes in iTunes 10 which can allow TuneSpan to work without the need for TuneSpan Helper. That would be great for being able to get into the Mac App Store which restrict background processes, but would hold back being able to do live folder changes to address this kind of issue.

And just to mention here, there is currently no code in TuneSpan to modify any id3 tags (or any other kinds of tags).
