TuneSpan won’t work if iTunes Library.xml moved

MC shared this problem 13 years ago
Solved

TuneSpan will not work if the iTunes Library.xml file is not in the default location, and it will not work if there is an alias or symlink to the iTunes Library.xml file’s location.

This is not a bug, but a conscious limitation in the current beta phase.

TuneSpan is not currently well suited to handle situations where users have already moved the iTunes library media around (especially if the method of moving was to move the whole iTunes folder and symlink back to its original location). It was created with the intention to be used with iTunes in its default state.

This may change in the future, but as of right now I have no intentions of opening up TuneSpan to work with more complex library setups.

My iTunes Library xml file is called ITunes Library NOT iTunes Music Library. This is the default name for this file. Any ideas when this will be supported? This is not a "complex library setup".

cheers,

TuneSpan 0.9.5 beta has just been released and can detect and read the the iTunes library whether it is names "iTunes Music Library.xml" or "iTunes Library.xml"

If both exist in "~/Music/iTunes" whichever one is newer will be loaded.

TuneSpan 0.9.6 beta has just been released which (finally) brings support for iTunes Libraries in any location, as well as support for loading and keeping track of multiple iTunes Libraries.

So, this issue is now completely solved no matter where a users iTunes Library is, you can just locate it through TuneSpan.
